3Lance Electrical Estimating Ltd is solely run by Steve Dunwell who has over 25 years experience in the industry. Starting out as an apprentice electrician he soon progressed his career by taking up estimating at Shepherd Engineering Services in York This was a really great foundation and several years on he moved to Haydon Young latterley Balfour Beatty as senior estimator. Having worked in estimating for a number of years he moved to Schneider Electric as project/bid manager on the Merlin Gerin division. He then moved through many areas of the M&E industry so has a broad depth of knowledge that compliments his freelance estimating offer. Steve completes every single tender himself and prefers to deal with the whole process as below:- Send the link to tender docs for Steve to review and agree a fixed fee. Steve can also deal with sub-contractors and appraise quotations for compliance. Full take off using Ensign software. Obtain your nett prices from your chosen wholesaler. All labour is accounted for too. Once inputted into Ensign I add your labour rate, margins and prelims and then produce a fully detailed take off summary and will send a tender letter with your letterhead that will show any exclusions and clarifications. Many of my contractors also set me up an email address so I can appear to be an in house estimator. I'm also happy to attend site meetings to help get tenders over the line.
